Bodhi - The Boy Who Crossed An Ocean

Throughout the latter half of 2024 I worked with author Anisch Bakrania on bringing his autobiographical story to life. The first instalment in an impending trilogy, ‘Bodhi - the Boy Who Crossed an Ocean’ is focused on a young Indian boy based loosely on the author’s father and his migration to Kenya in the 1940’s.

It was important to me to work closely with the author throughout the initial character creation and deciding on a colour palette, as these were integral to doing the cultural family justice. In terms of the character style, Anisch wanted to find the balance between something appealing to the target literary audience of 6-10 year olds, and also a more abstract drawing style to stand out from other similar books on the market. Although the book is aimed at children, we wanted a distinct artistic style which could be appreciated by all age groups and including parents.
